Derek McInnes rages at unbelievable Thelo Aasgaard moment in Rangers vs Jagiellonia

Rangers took an early lead against Jagiellonia Bialystok in the Europa League qualifier on Thursday, but it didn't last long.

The Gers travelled to Chorten Arena on 6 August, and in the fourth minute, Guilherme Montoia scored an own goal.

The Ibrox side didn't hold on to their lead for long as Kajetan Szmyt scored twice quickly back-to-back.

Derek McInnes must have been delighted with the way the Glaswegian outfit started the game, but it quickly turned sour for him.

While several players on the pitch were underwhelming, Thelo Aasgaard surely was the reason for the Scottish manager's ire.

It was a half for Aasgaard to forget as McInnes was left with his head in his hands after several poor moments.

It was in the 21st minute in particular where the Norway international baffled many, including his manager, with his actions.

With the Govan side looking threatening in the final third, the 24-year-old decided to play a tricky pass when he didn't need to, leading to a counter from Jagiellonia.

Despite Ivor Pandir's initial save, Szmyt found the ball at his feet and secured his brace.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound on 6 August, Steven Thompson said, "I just can't believe Aasgaard. Rangers have got control, there's space out on the right, but he tries an audacious flick and it doesn't come off. They're then countered and punished in the space of four passes.

"I watched McInnes when that ball was given away and the manager is raging."

McInnes' starting lineup against Jagiellonia saw Daisuke Yokota make his full debut for Rangers after only recently completing a move from Hannover 96.

Dujon Sterling started as left-centre-back, despite Olwethu Makhanya being on the bench.

The 55-year-old head coach decided not to rely on Lawrence Shankland as Youssef Chermiti started up top.

McInnes tried to experiment with his team in Poland, and it backfired in the first half.

It now remains to be seen whether the Scottish manager can turn things around as the Govan side go into the break 2-1 down.
