Derek McInnes dropped Kevin Kelsy in Rangers' 2-2 draw against Dundee FC on Saturday.

There were some whispers about the decision after the Gers' starting lineup was named ahead of the clash at Dens Park.

The Bears missed out on the chance of going top of the Scottish Premiership with the win, despite leading twice in the match through Badredine Bouanani and Nicolas Raskin.

While fingers will most likely be pointed at Dan Neil for his costly mistake that gifted the hosts their second goal of the contest, McInnes arguably deserves some of the blame for his team selections, too.

Minsu Kim started in attacking midfield behind Ryan Naderi, and once again proved to be a bright spark with no end product.

But what else was seen will also raise further questions about why Rangers started without Kelsy on the field.

What Derek McInnes has learnt the hard way after Kevin Kelsy decision

Rangers signed Kelsy for £9.5million from Portland Timbers in the summer, who came in somewhat as an emergency addition after Youssef Chermiti and Lawrence Shankland's respective injuries.

The Venezuelan international scored his first goal for the Light Blues in the Premier Sports Cup win over Celtic, and got on the scoresheet against Kilmarnock last weekend.

However, the 22-year-old was dropped back to the bench and only featured for the final 14 minutes at Dens Park.

What McInnes has learned the hard way is that Naderi clearly thrives off Kelsy's presence, and looked like his old self without his strike buddy up top alongside him.

The Rangers boss has also clearly learnt that even if he wants to make the 4-2-3-1 formation work, it clearly isn't the answer to his style of play.

Two vocal points have always worked for McInnes, and he can't hide away from the results.

The Gers only scored two goals through two pieces of individual brilliance, despite all the crosses they put into the box.

It's clear that Rangers need two big boys up top like Naderi and Kelsy, even if they dove tail throughout games.

The Rangers man who won't believe his luck after Dundee

Kelsy has already been labelled a "beast" for Rangers, and whenever he doesn't start, McInnes will look for his big-money signing to make an impact off the bench.

However, Bojan Miovski will be wondering what he has to do to get minutes at Rangers after being an unused substitute against Dundee.

The striker has already proved that he can come up with clutch minutes off the bench, so what more does he have to do to get a chance?

The North Macedonian parted ways with his agent after failing to get a move away from Ibrox in the summer, and will most likely be assessing his options ahead of the winter transfer window.
