Derek McInnes and Rangers handed Minsu Kim boost after South Korea latest

Derek McInnes will be hoping that Minsu Kim has a positive international break away from Rangers.

The Gers signed the winger from Girona on a permanent deal earlier this summer, which set Andrew Cavenagh back £8.5million.

However, that investment has so far paid dividends, with the 20-year-old playing a crucial role in both Old Firm derby wins over Celtic.

Kim's positive start at Ibrox subsequently saw him earn his first-ever call-up to South Korea's national team ahead of their fixtures over the break.

He had previously been involved with his nation's U18s setup, but has clearly caught the eye in recent months after good work for the Bears and FC Andorra last term.

Though Kim has yet to get off the mark for the Gers, the general consensus is that he will turn out to be a transfer revelation.

The attacker has already played in several positions under McInnes, most recently returning to his natural role of a right-sided attacker in the games against Celtic.

He was involved in South Korea's 3-0 friendly win over Ecuador this Thursday, as Tottenham legend Son Heung-min was among the goalscorers.

Kim came off the bench in the 75th minute, and has gained an overall good response from supporters online for his short cameo.

McInnes will also be delighted to learn that the youngster went through the game unscathed.

Kim now only has two more friendlies to try and get through injury-free before returning to Auchenhowie in early October.

Who is Kim's competition in South Korea team?

South Korea setup with a 4-4-2 formation, a system that McInnes has used early on at Ibrox.

He's since shown he can be adaptable for the Govan side with different formations.

But Seung-Won Jung started ahead of Kim against Ecuador at right midfield, where he played for the Gers against Celtic, ahead of the likes of Findlay Curtis.

The youngster came on for Nacional's Min-Kyu Song at left midfield, as his versatility means he can compete on either flank.

With two more friendlies ahead of South Korea, there's a good chance that Kim will start at least one game.

If he doesn't McInnes would probably still be happy anyway.
