Derek McInnes accused of mind games after what he said before Rangers' Old Firm clash vs Celtic

Rangers are gearing up for another huge Old Firm clash on Sunday.

Just a week on from a morale-boosting 3-0 victory over Celtic in the Scottish League Cup, the two rivals go head-to-head again.

This time, it is the Bhoys who will have home advantage for the Scottish Premiership clash, presenting another challenge for in-form Rangers.

Derek McInnes' side have now racked up five straight victories, and will hope to turn that momentum into another Old Firm triumph.

With the international break taking place after the game, it would give the Gers some great momentum to take into the first season pause.

However, Aiden McGeady has accused McInnes of engaging in mind games after what he said in his pre-match news conference.

McInnes spoke to the press pack to preview the second of an Old Firm double header on Friday.

There were naturally several topics that came up for discussion ahead of one of the biggest games in world football.

Among them, as usual, was an update on injuries at Ibrox ahead of the clash, with Ryan Naderi's ankle problem the big question mark.

McInnes, though, also said there was another Rangers player who he did not want to name who had a potential issue before the clash.

It was with this that former Celtic winger McGeady had an issue, questioning why McInnes would even bring it up.

Speaking on the Go Football Radio Show, McGeady said: "Can you explain that to me, why even bring it up then and say it's an unknown player I'd rather not talk about?

"Why bring it up then? A wee spanner in the works? Mind games, gamesmanship before an Old Firm game."

It's really not that deep...

I mean, it was such an innocuous comment from McInnes that it was barely worth picking up.

Is it really that deep? If he says who might be injured could he be giving a clue to Martin O'Neill about potential team selection?

Everyone was already aware about the issues involving Naderi, so there was no harm in discussing that one.

But maybe with this other unspecificied issue it could have provided a tactical insight as to how McInnes might be lining up.

Or perhaps that is also clutching at straws and it all means nothing.

Either way, storm in a teacup stuff, it's doubtful McInnes was thinking too deeply about it.
