Indeed, the Gers' 3-0 win over their bitter Glaswegian rivals on Sunday was a day that the Ibrox faithful won't forget in a hurry.

Just like there were no Celtic supporters inside Ibrox for that one, the same will be applied for Rangers fans at Parkhead this weekend.

That will only serve to make the task facing McInnes' men that bit harder, as the need to close the gap on Celtic is a pressing one even at this stage.

Should they be able to claim victory, however, then this Gers group will write a fabulous piece of Old Firm history for themselves.

When was the last time Rangers won back-to-back games vs Celtic?

As is the nature of the Old Firm and the often closely-matched nature of the two sides, recording successive wins in the fixture isn't easy.

But after their Scottish League Cup win, that's precisely what Rangers will be setting out to do on Sunday.

The last time that Gers were able to do that was in early 2025, interestingly enough with two different managers in the dugout.

Philippe Clement led Rangers to a 3-0 league win over Celtic on 2 January 2025, before Barry Ferguson took charge of a 3-2 win at Parkhead on 16 March 2025.

To find the last time Rangers achieved this feat prior to then, you have to go back to 2021.

Looking at that 3-2 away win at Celtic Park in particular, what lessons can be learned from that day from which McInnes can employ on Sunday?

Hamza Igamane's 88th-minute goal to win that game 3-2 will forever produce goosebumps on the arms of Rangers fans.

It was an afternoon that saw Gers take a two-goal lead into half-time, before Celtic levelled things up in the second half.

But what Ferguson's side were able to do in that game should show McInnes the pathway to another Parkhead victory on Sunday.

As per FotMob, Rangers had just 28 per cent possession that day, and put only five shots on target.

They of course scored with three of those in a clinical finishing display, and missed zero of their two big chances created.

Gers played just 141 accurate passes all game compared to Celtic's 469, showing a confidence in their ability to stay organised and go more direct.

Ferguson's side dominated the ground duels, winning 58 per cent of them, and won 19 tackles to Celtic's eight.

So, with Gers having now kept four clean sheets from their last five in all competitions, McInnes' men should have trust in their backline to withstand a Celtic onslaught.

The gaffer will want to make sure he achieves this, with his name over both victories, not like it was last time.
