Danny Rohl was left frustrated that he was not able to hand Kyle Glasgow his Rangers debut last season.

The Scottish Professional Football League made it impossible for players that were under the age of 16 to play in senior matches.

Glasgow is one of Rangers' top emerging talents, and he could have benefitted from an early introduction to senior football.

Ibrox News have reported on Glasgow's recent loan to Alloa Athletic, where he has already impressed.

But that breakthrough could have been made months in advance.

Now, a rule change looks to be enacted which will solve the headache that Rohl faced last season.

What has changed with the SPFL's rule on youth players?

At just 15 years old, it says a lot about Glasgow's talents that Rohl wanted to hand him his inaugural professional bout.

Rules in the end prevented that.

You had to be 16 years old to feature in the Scottish Cup and league, a policy that threatened to stifle the development of talent in Scotland.

Now, seven months on from Rohl's frustration of being left unable to play Glasgow against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup, that is all set to change.

According to the Daily Record, the SPFL are set to confirm this week to Scottish clubs that players can now make appearances for the first team as young as 15.

The rule change has already been implemented but has not yet been communicated.

Rohl, while no longer in Scotland, would have appreciated this ruling but for Rangers, they will now be able to utilise the change.

Over the years, there has been an exodus of players making their way down to England, where no such policy exists.

The hope now is that this rule change could help limit those wave of exits moving forward.

What new ruling now means for Rangers

When it came to poaching young Scottish talent, English clubs had the advantage as they had the allure of a potential debut sooner in their careers.

Now, Rangers can entice talent to stay at Ibrox with the chance of featuring for the first team on their minds.

Additionally, this rule change is likely to see records at Ibrox be broken over the next few years.

Currently, Rangers' youngest-ever player is Derek Ferguson, who made his debut at 16 years and 24 days old.

If this rule change had been brought forward last season, Glasgow would undoubtedly have broken that.
