Barry Ferguson urges Derek McInnes to axe Rangers player who was 'real danger' vs Dundee
Barry Ferguson believes Derek McInnes should consider a change in attack for Rangers' clash with St Johnstone this weekend.
The Gers saw their winning run come to a halt with a 2-2 draw against Dundee at Dens Park last Saturday.
Badredine Bouanani opened his Rangers account in style to cancel out Bradley Fink's opener, before Nicolas Raskin's belter put the Gers 2-1 up.
However, Callum Jones netted an equaliser and McInnes' men could not find another goal.
McInnes' team selection for the match was questioned, having changed a winning formula by benching Kevin Kelsy.
That is something ex-Rangers captain and caretaker boss Ferguson believes needs rectifying.
Why Barry Ferguson wants to see Kevin Kelsy recalled
Kelsy was on the scoresheet in Rangers' most recent match prior to the Dundee game - a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock.
Ryan Naderi also scored twice in that match as the front two clicked nicely into gear.
So naming Kelsy on the bench last time out led to eyebrows being raised, even if McInnes wanted to make full use of his squad depth.
In quotes attributed to the Glasgow Times, Ferguson said he would like to see Naderi and Kelsy get the nod against St Johnstone, even if Bouanani impressed when given a chance.
"I liked the way Kelsy and Naderi were working," he said." I thought the formation was looking good and, most importantly, they were winning games of football.
"Derek made the decision to change Kelsy with Bouanani, and he did come up trumps with his goal and he looked at a real danger.
"But I just like the two big boys up top. I think it’s worked really well for Rangers."
How should Rangers line up vs St Johnstone?
Ferguson is spot on. McInnes had a winning formula and there is zero reason to change that assuming everyone is fit.
The fact Rangers are out of Europe means they have an advantage over Celtic of having a full week's rest between most matches.
Reverting back to the line-up that started against Kilmarnock makes sense.
That would see Kelsy lead the line, with Naderi just off him, and Minsu Kim and Djeidi Gassama providing support from out wide.
Leaving out Bouanani may seem harsh on the face of it, but the balance we saw against Killie worked well and should be used again.
