Brentford forward Ivan Toney told Ally McCoist that he came close to joining Celtic and Rangers last summer.

The 25-year-old set the English footballing pyramid alight with impressive performances for Peterborough United and was a wanted man.

He ended up staying in England and moved to the Brentford Community Stadium where he guided the Bees to their first ever promotion to the Premier League.

Rangers

During an interview with Toney on talkSPORT (8:40am, September 27), McCoist, a BT Sport pundit, told the English striker he was glad that he didn't move to Celtic.

The 25-year-old responded, "I was going to sign for Celtic but I was also going to sign for Rangers. So you might be happy with that."

To which McCoist replied, "You're going to kill me. I didn't know that man."

Bombshell

This news came as a shock for McCoist who would've loved having Toney at Ibrox given his goalscoring antics.

Given Alfredo Morelos' uncertain future, he would've liked someone of his calibre to lead the line with or in place of the Colombian.

Rangers

The same can be said of most Rangers fans as this is a huge signing they potentially missed out on.

Not only did he replicate similar numbers in the Championship, but is now doing the same thing in the Premier League against some of the best players in Europe.

However, it's a good thing that Celtic didn't sign him either, otherwise, it would have been a bitter pill to swallow.

Toney's arrival in the Scottish Premiership would make him the best striker in the league and it would be infuriating seeing him on the green side of Glasgow.
