Emmanuel Fernandez's performances are back under the spotlight at Rangers.

The 25-year-old joined from Peterborough United in the summer of 2025.

He has been a mainstay of Derek McInnes' defence this season, partnering Olwethu Makhanya in the heart of Rangers' defence.

The pairing has been part of a defence that helped Rangers rack up seven straight wins, with six of those in the Scottish Premiership.

However, the Gers saw that running win halted by a 2-2 draw at Dundee last Saturday, despite having fought back to lead the game.

And Fernandez is once again a man under the spotlight, with his spot in the side a topic of discussion on the Go Radio Football Show.

Aiden McGeady shares what's holding Emmanuel Fernandez back at Rangers

Fernandez was pretty shaky in the draw against Dundee, and he is a player that often leaves Rangers fans with their hearts in their mouths.

With Ben Godfrey chomping at the bit to start, McInnes does have options if he wants to switch up his options.

Indeed, a fan in the Go Radio Football Show studio suggested that is what she would like to see happen.

She stated that Fernandez often has "bombscares" in him, and that Godfrey might be a better partner for Makhanya.

Host Paul Cooney picked up on that point immediately, and put it to former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady.

"The bombscares were back weren't they Saturday night?" Cooney said.

McGeady agreed, saying a lack of consistency is at the heart of Fernandez's performances.

He replied to Cooney: "That's his problem, it's inconsistency. There's always a mistake in him isn't there? When he's good he's very good."

Should Derek McInnes make a change at Rangers?

Unfortunately for Fernandez, perception is often reality.

And the perception from Rangers fans and pundits is that he has too many mistakes in the locker.

If McInnes is to turn Rangers into champions, then he needs players to be at their best consistently.

That is especially true of his defence, especially in games like the Dundee one where the matches are going to tight and tense.

With Godfrey waiting in the wings, it might be the right time to make the change and partner him alongside Makhanya.
