Russell Martin: An unmitigated Rangers disaster
When Rangers appointed Russell Martin in June 2025, there was scepticism to say the least. But the Ibrox faithful were willing to give it a chance, given it was the first appointment made by the 49ers Enterprises. Fast forward four months, and Martin – a former Rangers player – was sacked after an absolutely dismal spell in Govan. In total, Martin lasted just 17 games and managed just five victories – an appalling record for any Rangers manager. There was little fanfare for his arrival, but there was a huge sigh of relief when he was shown the door. His time with the Gers will not be remembered with any sort of fondness that is for sure.
Russell Martin managerial record
Martin had a decent record at Southampton prior to his spell at Rangers, thanks largely to a promotion campaign in the English Championship. Other than that, though, it’s fair to say Martin’s win record is nothing spectacular, and it will come as little surprise that his lowest so far was during his time at Ibrox.
Russell Martin managerial honours
Martin’s one significant career achievement as a manager to date came when he led Southampton to play-off success in the 2023-24 season.
