Dujon Sterling has had a chequered past with injuries at Rangers.

Nobody is denying that is the only thing holding him back from reaching the very top at Ibrox.

Sterling has been sensational under Derek McInnes, and has managed to start consistently for possibly the first time in his Glasgow stay.

But, worries started after he was taken off at half-time of Rangers' 3-1 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.

McInnes admitted it was precautionary at the time, with illness more of an issue than actual physical injury.

After being told more, Si Ferry simply wasn't having it.

Dujon Sterling is critical for Rangers

It was Kosta Nedeljkovic who came on, and things just weren't the same after that happened.

Speaking on Open Goal, Derek Ferguson shared his verdict on why things dropped off in the second half, including the substitution.

"They did that in the first half, they've won the game," he said.

"They took Sterling off, he had a little bit of bronchitis, or whatever. He had a little something going off.

Ferry wasn't having it, puffing his cheeks as he shook his head at the defender being taken off at the break.

"Do you not think it's good that McInnes acknowledged that he needed to make changes early?" Ferguson concluded.

Is Dujon Sterling available vs Dundee?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, by the way.

Sterling did his job in the first half, Rangers were three ahead and he didn't feel his best, it's the correct call to have taken him off.

And, it's worked out for McInnes and Co.

With a trip to Dens Park to take on Dundee next on Saturday, Sterling has been made available for the game already.

With medical staff checking him over at Auchenhowie early in the week, Sterling is almost guaranteed to start again when Rangers travel east.

This is one of the major positives behind no European football.

Of course, we all wanted it at Ibrox and it's a massive blow to miss out completely, but all eyes are on domestic fixtures.

The Rangers squad have less football, less travel and fewer excuses not to lift all available silverware.

Having knocked Celtic out of the Premier Sports Cup already, they're the favourites for that with the semi-final at the end of this month.

Now it's about taking over in the Scottish Premiership, too.
