Rangers face worrying wait as Thelo Aasgaard clearly in distress after draw vs West Ham

Rangers midfielder Thelo Aasgaard went off injured against West Ham United on Sunday.

The Norway international was substituted midway through the second half as he was unable to continue after hurting his shoulder during a challenge at Ibrox on 26 July.

While it remains to be seen how serious the midfielder's knock is, the initial signs may not be encouraging.

Aasgaard was one of the best players at Ibrox against West Ham, but Derek McInnes could now possibly be sweating over his fitness.

The Glaswegian outfit will travel to Tannadice Park to face Dundee United on 31 July in the Scottish manager's first competitive game in charge of the Light Blues.

McInnes has shown plenty of faith in the former Luton Town ace, but he didn't look particularly comfortable after full-time in Govan.

The midfielder looked calm and composed in the engine room as he was deployed behind Ryan Naderi in the first half.

Apart from trying to create chances in the final third, the Norwegian ace dropped deep to pick up the ball and relieve pressure when needed.

After the game, in a video shared by Rangers Review's Blair Malloy on X, Aasgaard can be seen rubbing his injured shoulder for a considerable period as he thanked the fans.

The Govan side now surely face a worrying wait as the medical department determines the extent of the midfielder's knock.

What Derek McInnes has said about Thelo Aasgaard's injury

McInnes gave a glowing review of Asgaard after he decided to return to pre-season training early.

The Norway international had the option to extend his holidays after the 2026 World Cup, but showed his commitment at Ibrox.

With the Scottish manager heaping praise on the midfielder, he may have a critical role to play next season.

After the match, McInnes said that he expected Aasgaard and Cammy Devlin to be fit against Dundee United.

There will still be slight concerns among the Ibrox faithful about the ex-Luton star's situation before the medical staff clears him.
