Philippe Clement has been handed two blows in the same night as Rangers stared down the barrel of a 4-1 thrashing by Lyon on Thursday (3 October).

Despite going 1-0 down to Malick Fofana after just 10 minutes, Tom Lawrence fired back just four minutes later, sending Ibrox into pandemonium, only for the joy to be cut short moments later.

Alexandre Lacazette grabbed a brace before the half-time break before Fofana achieved the same feat 10 minutes into the second half, condemning the Gers to a three-goal defeat.

In between those moments at Ibrox was Lawrence being replaced by Kieran Dowell at the half-time break, handing Clement yet another injury worry for the 2024/25 campaign.

The Belgian is already without Oscar Cortes, Danilo, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz, with the Welshman now expected to be added to that list of players on the treatment table.

Lawrence has the potential to be a crucial star at Ibrox, but his number of different injury problems continue to hinder his development and involvement as a Rangers player.

He has made just 52 appearances for the Gers since joining from Derby County in the summer of 2022, showing just how little managers have been able to rely on him.

Despite this, he was beginning to show real signs of progress under Clement, with three goals and one assist in his first six league appearances, with the Lyon goal to add to the tally.

Now, many fans are expecting him to be sidelined once again after an ankle injury was cited after not coming back out of the tunnel at half-time against Lyon on Thursday night.

That would be an extremely big blow for the Gers, especially given his recent performances in Light Blue, but it remains to be seen how serious the new injury is.
