Steven Thompson has hit out at Cyriel Dessers after his antics in the Rangers defeat against Lyon in the Europa League at Ibrox.

The Gers fell to a 4-1 defeat at home on Thursday 3 October with a Tom Lawrence strike not enough to stop the French side from securing all three points.

The Nigerian international missed chances yet again, but it was his playacting to throw himself on the floor from any contact that caught the eye.

Speaking live on BBC Sportsound [3 October, 20:34], Thompson was far from happy with Dessers after his latest contribution.

"Shock," he said. "It's really annoying me now."

The striker has come under fire in his time at Ibrox for various reasons with his wasteful finishing in front of goals being the typical annoyance.

This can be ignored given how frequently the 29-year-old scores or creates chances for the Light Blues with three goals and an assist in the Scottish Premiership so far this campaign.

Although this will wash with supporters, what will damage his reputation in Glasgow is if he continues with playacting and diving at Ibrox.

This was a complaint levelled at Fabio Silva in his loan spell with the club which saw him become a frustrating signing for the club.

Cyriel Dessers has scored 22 goals in all competitions during his first season at Rangers.

The Nigerian was caught out doing this against Lyon which is something that is only made more frustrating by the final result.

Philippe Clement's side were against tough opposition but that isn't much of an excuse for a 4-1 defeat at home in European competition, summed up by Vaclav Cerny's early miss.
