Everything Rangers boss Derek McInnes said on Youssef Chermiti injury and transfer bid
Youssef Chermiti's future may yet be at Rangers due to the injury he sustained against Hibernian.
The Portuguese striker has been a key player for the Bears since signing last summer, and under Derek McInnes it was hoped he would do the same.
His performances have attracted plenty of interest throughout Europe, with Galatasaray recently sending a record offer for Chermiti.
That bid was rejected with McInnes confirming the reports following Rangers' 2-1 loss to Hibernian.
However, for Rangers fans, while they will want to know the latest on his future, the most concerning topic is the injury he sustained.
After being stretchered off at Ibrox, McInnes has now shared an update on both his injury and future.
What has Derek McInnes said about Youssef Chermiti's injury?
Chermiti's injury did not look good for Rangers. After a collision with a Hibernian defender, he immediately signalled something was wrong.
At first, it was not known whether it was the impact with the Hibs player or the contact made with the advertising board that resulted in the blow.
But as per Rangers Review, McInnes has cleared it up in his press conference.
He stated: "It was an impact. He described to me as he planted his foot and then he felt the impact from the challenge.
"So, I know maybe it looks as though he hit the board, but I don't think he injured it hitting the board, to be honest with you."
The Rangers manager also confirmed that Chermiti would be leaving with a boot on his foot and a knee brace.
Rangers' next steps for the forward have also been outlined as McInnes shared he will be going for a scan tomorrow (10 August).
McInnes said: "We'll get him scanned tomorrow. So, we don't want people to speculate. But hopefully, we'll get some luck on the scan tomorrow and he can be back in a Rangers shirt before too long."
Whenever there is an injury to the knee, there are sure to be plenty of concerns.
Hope will be that the 22-year-old has avoided an ACL or meniscus tear, with serious injuries of that nature potentially keeping him out for months.
Either way, any timeline of one to two months would likely put an end to the transfer pursuits, leaving the striker at Ibrox.
What has McInnes said about Galatasaray bid for Chermiti
When it comes to the bid sent for Chermiti, McInnes has also directly confirmed the reliability of those suggestions.
He stated that there was a "big number" bid that was rejected, a decision he is "delighted" with.
The Scotsman reiterated that Chermiti remains a core component of his Rangers side, stating: "We have got plans for Youssef to be with us this season and be part of something."
He later went on to say that the Bears missed his qualities after he left the pitch in the first-half.
"Disappointed for the big fella that he has to come off on a stretcher. I thought he was looking bright and running gaps. I thought he played with a bit of purpose. And there's no doubt we missed that" McInnes said following the game.
