Rangers state of play as figure who made audience gasp at AGM latest to go

Published on

James Taylor is the latest figure to depart Rangers as the overhaul on and off the field continues.

On the day Dan Neil's move to Ibrox was announced, following his exit from Sunderland as a free agent, Rangers confirmed Taylor's departure.

Taylor had worked as Rangers' chief financial officer for the past three years.

He had been touted as the Gers' next chief executive, but that job instead went to Jim Gillespie.

Taylor is now seeking a new position - with one particular job already being mentioned.

While he is not exactly a well-known figure among the fanbase, he did make supporters gasp at an AGM a couple of years ago.

James Taylor raised eyebrows with Rangers transfer revelation

Taylor was put under the spotlight in December that year as he was asked about transfer funds raised.

Rangers sold Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers and Connor Goldson, as well as Scott Wright and Robby McCrorie, yet raised just £810,000.

The Rangers AGM gasped when that figure was relayed, given just how low an amount it was.

Rangers have thankfully learned from their transfer mistakes of the past - to an extent - and it may well be that Taylor played a part in that.

What job has Taylor been linked with after Rangers exit?

Rangers wished Taylor all the best for the future in their short statement on Wednesday.

"James and the club have agreed that this is the right time for him to pursue new opportunities," the statement added.

It has been reported by The Sun that Taylor is on West Ham's list of options to take up a similar position.

He had previously held senior leadership roles at Mastercard, Barclays, and Zonal.

Taylor is the latest figure to leave Rangers in a summer of change, with first-team analyst Caio Pontes, set-piece specialist Scott Fry and goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo also heading for the exit.

That is on top of the change of manager, with Derek McInnes replacing Danny Rohl, and a number of transfer already being made.

It has been a period of disruption, but the hope now is that things settle down before the season begins in a month's time.
