Ipswich Town's reported interest in Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is incorrect, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist shared via his personal X account [30 August] that the newly promoted Premier League side are not in the market for a new keeper.

Butland has been the centre of rumours ever since moving to Govan, with Philippe Clement making very clear that he is untouchable.

"Rumours of Ipswich moving for Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland are not correct. Ipswich are not even in the market for a new keeper," Jacobs wrote.

Jack Butland transfer news before August 30 deadline

Butland leaving Ibrox hours before the transfer window closed would be a crushing blow for Clement, so it is an incredibly good feeling to see the rumours debunked.

The 31-year-old has been a vital star for the Gers since arriving as a free agent last summer, keeping 18 clean sheets in 33 Scottish Premiership appearances.

Even with Liam Kelly being added to the squad this summer, Clement would have been left with a lack of depth in the goalkeeper department, with almost no time to make any additions before the window shuts.

The shot-stopper has, of course, been heavily linked with an exit throughout the summer window due to his brilliant performances, but it would be a brainless decision to let him go now.

Even for the possibility of £12million from a player signed on a free transfer, it would be reckless of the Ibrox board to get rid of one of Clement's biggest stars this late on.

Luckily, fans can breathe a sigh of relief after Jacob's recent update, with Butland likely to remain in Scotland for the 2024/25 campaign.
