Philippe Clement wants to sign a new playmaker to help Rangers win domestic silverware this season, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported on Tuesday (27 August) that the Gers need to sell wantaway midfielder Todd Cantwell before they can bring in a new face before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Friday, 30 August.

Rangers haven't signed anyone since Robin Propper arrived on 1 August but the Glasgow club has welcomed seven new signings this summer as well as signing Mohamed Diomande permanently and Oscar Cortes on another loan.

Scottish Premiership title could rest on late Rangers summer transfers

It's not been the best of starts to the season for Clement.

He's seen his side get knocked out of the Champions League to Dynamo Kyiv while also being held to a draw by Hearts and having to scrape a win over Motherwell.

At the start of the season, Rangers shocked fans by confirming that the Belgian manager had signed a new four-year contract.

However, the jury is still largely out on the 50-year-old, who may have won the Scottish League Cup last season but he also lost momentum in the title race and saw his side come second best to Celtic on multiple occasions.

The tide needs to change this season but the opening exchanges suggest that might not be the case.

Signing a top-quality playmaker could make a lot of difference but it's unlikely to make enough of a difference that the Gers wrestle the Scottish Premiership trophy away from Parkhead.
