Rangers deal for Malik Tillman could collapse after Bayern Munich board changes after as clubs lose contact

Rangers could see a potential transfer for Malik Tillman collapse after they lost contact with Bayern Munich following boardroom changes in Germany.

Tillman spent the 2022/23 season on loan and won the Young Player of the Year award for his performances at Ibrox, leading to Michael Beale admitting that he wanted to make that deal permanent this summer.

But after Tillman was spotted back in training at Bayern following the expiration of his loan, German outlet TZ (4 June) have admitted that a deal could potentially be completely off the table as Rangers look to negotiate the fee down but have lost their contacts with the club after Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic were sacked.

“The fact that Malik Tillman is now back at Säbener Straße is not a big surprise, because the loan contract with Glasgow Rangers expired on May 31st,” they wrote.

“However, the announcement of the permanent move to the Rangers seemed only a matter of time.

“There was also a purchase option for the Scots in the amount of £5million (approx. €5.6 million), which Rangers wanted to squeeze and therefore announced talks between the clubs early on.

“However, a lot has happened over the weekend at Bayern that Beale mentioned. With the release of Hasan Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, the Scots lost their contacts.

“As of now, it is difficult to say whether the deal is completely off the table or whether negotiations will resume as soon as Bayern have appointed a successor to Hasan Salihamidzic.”

Get it done

Obviously £5m is a lot of money for Rangers, but if we’re going to splash the cash this summer to make changes then we need to ensure the squad isn’t immediately weakened beforehand.

Rangers

We’ve already lost Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Allan McGregor this summer from the first-team with their contracts expiring and replacing them is going to be a tough task immediately.

But if you then add to that Tillman leaving because the club don’t want to cough up a pre-agreed fee then we’re just making a bigger task for ourselves for no reason.

He’s clearly a key element in the way Beale wants to play because of his inclusion in teams regularly before his injury, so not spending the money to keep him will set the team back several steps.

Get the deal done and stop being cheap Rangers, Tillman is a big part of the future at Ibrox.
