Jim White puts Giovanni van Bronckhorst on blast live on talkSPORT after Rangers Champions League horror show
Jim White has let rip on Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst for his role in the club’s horrific run in the Champions League this season.
The Gers suffered a 3-1 loss to Ajax on Tuesday night (1 November), which cemented them as the worst ever side in Champions League group stage history with six defeats from six games with 22 goals conceded and just two scored.
But after giving excuses during his post-match interview as to why Rangers were so bad, White was having none of it while live on talkSPORT [2 November, 10:26] and suggested that the stage was too big for the club.

“I doubt there are any Rangers fans listening to that [interview] and saying he’s got a point, because to me he doesn’t,” White said.
“To be quite honest with you Simon, this is a stage that Rangers quite clearly shouldn’t have been on.”
Ouch
This one hurts more than any normal defeats or setbacks do, because this one will go down in history and there is truth to what White is saying.
Van Bronckhorst has been saying since day one that this team isn’t capable of competing at this level, despite getting all the way to a European final last year and only losing on penalties.
Yes we lost two key players in Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo in the summer, but he let Leon Balogun leave and his signings that came in during the summer window were all largely available to him throughout the group stage (barring John Souttar).
This is unquestionably his squad now and after a year in charge, you could argue the team has gone backwards in terms of performance and general quality in the squad too.
The club are now the laughing stock of the continent, and Van Bronckhorst is blaming injuries and a busy schedule – something that every club has to deal with.
It’s simply not good enough and he has to really make a statement over the next few games if he is to remain as manager so that there is a good feeling around the club before the World Cup break.
