Ryan Kent ‘suffering with a severe lack of confidence’ for Rangers – BBC Sportscene pundit

Ryan Kent is “suffering with a severe lack of confidence” at Rangers right now, according to BBC Sportscene pundit Neil McCann.

The 25 year old winger was named in the starting lineup once again against Motherwell on Sunday despite his poor form, and struggled yet again despite the team picking up a 2-1 win at Fir Park.

And after going on a good run but failing to get a meaningful shot off during the first half, McCann told BBC Sportscene [16 October, 19:35] that the only explanation is a massive shortage of confidence.

“This was a big three points because the amount of pressure Rangers were under going to Fir Park today would have been huge,” he said.

“Individually and collectively it was about how they reacted. They did fashion a few chances. I think Ryan Kent is suffering with a severe lack of confidence right now.

“He should take it (his chance) with his left foot and drive it across the keeper. He elects to take another touch and that’s what you do when you’re suffering from a lack of confidence.”

Trouble

Kent has gone from being one of the first and most important names on the team sheet to being completely dispensable in a matter of months because of his poor performances.

With less than a year to go on his contract at Ibrox, speculation has been rife about his situation and whether he will still be at the club after January’s transfer window, and if he is then whether he’ll stay into next season too.

There’s no doubt that his contract situation is having a say on his current form, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst needs to make a decision on whether to take him out of the firing line or try and let him play through his poor form.

Right now the latter isn’t working and Rangers as a team are feeling the effects of it, and with the boss’ future far from secure himself it may be a decision that rears its head again sooner rather than later.
