Rangers: Derek Ferguson shares ‘aggressive’ verdict on Mohamed Diomande after what he’s seen

Mohamed Diomande is going to be a “real asset” moving forward for Rangers and his “aggressive” play is a great trait, according to Derek Ferguson.

The versatile midfielder, 22, arrived on loan from Nordsjaelland in January with Rangers having an obligation to buy for an undisclosed fee (official website, 26 January).

Diomande has made five appearances for Rangers thus far and scored in his last two outings, the 3-0 win at St Johnstone on 18 February and the 5-0 thrashing of Hearts on Saturday (24 January).

Former Rangers man Ferguson – speaking exclusively to Ibrox News – has loved what he has seen of Diomande so far and backed him to be a key component moving forward.

“It’s great that he’s got his goals, I think he’s adapted really well,” he said.

“I think when you listen to the manager, the way he speaks about him, and he looks a player who can play in numerous positions.

“I think that’s important and I think that’s important to the manager that you’ve got midfielders who can adapt, he’s not a one-trick pony.

“I think if he was asked he could sit in there as a defensive midfield player but on first look at him he looks a box-to-box player.

“He’ll muck in in terms of doing the dirty stuff. He’s not a really well-built lad but he’s quite aggressive, and as we saw he scored that magnificent goal (versus St Johnstone).

“He’s settled in really quickly, that’s important and I think he’s going to be a real asset to the club.”

Mohamed Diomande has been brilliant for Rangers

The Ivorian midfielder has been an instant success at Ibrox and looks a real shrewd piece of business from Philippe Clement.

Diomande likes to be involved high up the pitch and has already chipped in with a couple of goals. If he can continue to contribute then his affinity with Rangers supporters will continue to grow.
