Rangers could revisit Romaine Mundle transfer as Sunderland approach rejected

Rangers were linked with a January swoop for Romaine Mundle.

The Light Blues simply have to win silverware next season, but to do that, recruitment plans need to be flawless this summer.

Mikey Moore looks set to return to Tottenham, and given the impact he had at Ibrox over the last 12 months, he will need to be replaced if another loan deal cannot be arranged.

Sunderland winger, and ironically, former Tottenham youth prospect, Mundle was linked with a move to Glasgow several months ago.

The Black Cats are expected to sanction several exits in the coming months, and it could open the door for Rangers to swoop for Mundle.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

Why did Rangers fail in move for Romaine Mundle in January?

Mundle had fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light last season, and it seemed as though an exit was likely in January.

However, Rangers were unable to agree a loan move for the winger, given that the Black Cats had already loaned out the maximum number of players internationally, with Scotland under the same label.

However, that transfer could happen this summer, with Sunderland having already rejected an approach from Toulouse for the 23-year-old.

Mundle has two years left on his contract come the end of June, leaving the Premier League outfit in a fairly healthy position when it comes to deciding his future.

What would Mundle bring to Rangers?

Mundle struggled in the Premier League but thrived in the Championship, which would be a similar level to many of the teams he would face with Rangers.

Despite starting just 17 times, he managed seven goal involvements in the Championship, while also averaging 2.19 completed dribbles per 90.

For context, that’s 0.07 more than Mikey Moore, who was so often the key player in transition for the Light Blues last season.

Much of it would depend on the nature of the deal and the finances involved, but if a loan could be arranged, it would be an ideal addition for the Gers.
