Nicolas Raskin one of two big-name players now likely to leave Rangers as Ibrox changes begin

Rangers are set for a big summer ahead of the 2026-27 season, after missing out on the Scottish Premiership title last month.

Danny Rohl’s side picked up serious momentum heading into the split, with 14 goals from three games seeing them carry serious title ambitions.

This would soon unravel, with the Gers ending the season in third after a barren run.

Losing four on the bounce against Motherwell, Hearts, Celtic and Hibs, the Govan side would be blown completely out of title contention.

They would go on to beat Falkirk on the final day, though work remains to be done over the summer, and multiple key men could be set to leave amid this process, including Belgian midfielder Nico Raskin.

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

Two big names mentioned as Rangers departures discussed

In truth, Rangers left themselves with a lot of work to do this season, with the dismal start under Russell Martin hampering them until the very end.

But the disappointing end to the season cannot be glossed over, as Rohl endured the worst run since the 1980s, with four successive defeats.

Building the squad for next season, the Gers have already added Lawrence Shankland, but departures could be on the cards too.

Assessing the squad, Chris Jack took a look at the options in midfield for the Rangers Review.

“Jose Cifuentes will be surplus to requirements and will be allowed to depart after his latest loan spell,” he said, before revealing news of two potential big holes in the squad.

“Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande will attract interest and are likely to leave,” he added, after the pair had continued to impress in the middle of the park at Ibrox.

Making the Belgium squad ahead of the World Cup, Raskin has been rewarded for another fine season at Ibrox – one in which he was listed as the club’s best player.

Joining from Standard Liege in 2023, the 25-year-old is one of the first names on the teamsheet and would be sorely missed by Rohl.

Making 46 appearances, Ivorian midfielder Diomande would register six goal contributions for the Gers, meaning that they may well have to add another 22 to the arsenal this summer, alongside the guaranteed goals brought by Shankland up top.

A summer reset may not be the worst situation for Rangers

Trophyless for two seasons in a row, it has not exactly been the best time for a player to be associated with the Govan side.

There is talent coursing through the squad, though the simple fact of the matter cannot be ignored – they have not proven themselves as winners.

Appointed in October, Rohl steered Rangers back into title contention, but it was ultimately not enough.

Stamping his authority on the side, a summer reset may not be the worst idea, with many within the current squad not yet tasting what it is like to succeed at Ibrox.

Rohl could lose hugely talented players in Raskin and Diomande, but if it aids the club in the long run, it could end up being a blessing more than anything.
