Nicolas Raskin among current & ex-Rangers stars reacting to Billy Gilmour’s World Cup heartbreak
Nicolas Raskin and numerous other current and former Rangers players have offered their sympathies to Billy Gilmour, after his World Cup dream was ended through injury.
The 24-year-old was playing for Scotland in their 4-1 friendly win over Curacao last Saturday when disaster struck.
Gilmour pulled up in clear discomfort just minutes before half-time, and was eventually forced off to be replaced by Rangers talent Findlay Curtis.
Indeed, Curtis would score for Scotland just minutes after replacing Gilmour, and would also have a hand in winning the penalty for their fourth goal of the game late on.
However, Gilmour has been ruled out of the World Cup with a serious knee injury, and many players from across world football have come together to show their support for the talented midfielder.

What did Rangers’ Nicolas Raskin send to Billy Gilmour?
Gilmour spent many years at Rangers as a youngster, and was often touted with a return to Ibrox during his time with the likes of Chelsea and Brighton respectively.
A Napoli player since the summer of 24, the Scotsman has been impressing in Serie A when given the chance, and looks every bit of a player who will continue to have a long career in a top European league.
| Gilmour’s 25-26 Serie A stats | Result |
| Minutes played | 1,172 |
| Pass accuracy | 89.3% |
| Chances created | 21 |
| Crossing accuracy | 50% |
| Average match rating | 7.1 |
He was expected to be a key player for Scotland at this summer’s World Cup too, and so to see his dream of representing his nation on international football’s biggest stage stolen away from him in this fashion is so, so cruel.
Gilmour has since taken to his Instagram account to share a message to his followers on how he’s feeling, and it’s obvious that he’s massively disappointed, but also determined to get back fit ASAP.
“I haven’t got the words to describe how I’m feeling right now,” Gilmour wrote.

“Being so close to a childhood dream of mine, to play in a World Cup, and now it has been taken away from me with an injury. It’s been a tough one to get my head around.
“Your support and kind messages over the last few days mean the world to me and haven’t gone unnoticed, so thank you so much.
“I’ll see you all back doing what I love again soon but until then, let’s get behind the team and cheer them on. Come on Scotland!
In response to Gilmour’s message, Raskin liked the post and left a comment underneath, which simply saw him send a praying hands emoji, a sad face emoji and a love heart emoji to the midfielder.
Which other Rangers stars have reacted to Gilmour’s post?
However, the Belgian was far from the only one with Rangers connections to show their support to Gilmour’s post so far.
Connor Barron and Max Aarons both liked the post, as did former Ibrox favourites Ryan Jack, Tom Lawrence and Scott Arfield respectively.
Meanwhile, legendary striker-turned pundit Ally McCoist liked the post as well, whilst also leaving a comment saying: “Top man,” leaving saluting, clapping hands and football emojis too.
Lawrence Shankland left a love heart emoji for Gilmour, whilst former Rangers goalkeeping talent and current Partick Thistle keeper Lewis Budinauckas also liked the post as well.
