Daylam Meddah: Rangers should revisit winter interest – he’d bring new trait to Danny Rohl’s defence
Daylam Meddah was linked with Rangers in last season’s January transfer window, and he should be on Gers’ radar once again this summer.
Rangers are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer, as Danny Rohl and the 49ers look to right the wrongs of 2025-26.
Indeed, they’ve already shown their intent to strengthen with the signing of Lawrence Shankland, and his arrival won’t be the last at Ibrox before the 2026-27 campaign gets under way.
Gers’ post-split run-in exposed a number of weaknesses in Rohl’s side, one of the big ones being in defence, conceding at least two goals in each of their five post-split games.
Therefore, strengthening at the back will be high among Rangers’ transfer priorities, and that could lead them back to a reported target from last season’s winter window: Meddah.

How did Daylam Meddah fare for Pau in 2025-26?
In the weeks leading up to the 2025-26 January transfer window, Rangers had reportedly joined the race to sign Meddah.
The 23-year-old only joined Pau on a permanent deal last summer, having previously been with fellow French outfit Caen.

Meddah made 26 appearances for Pau last season, with 25 of those coming in Ligue 2 and all of them being part of the starting XI.
His team would finish ninth, firmly in mid-table of the French second division last term, but he was arguably their best player too.
As per FotMob, Meddah registered a successful pass percentage of 93.5 per cent, whilst also recording a long ball success rate of 84.9 per cent, which was the highest of any centre-back – the position FotMob list as his primary one – in Ligue 2 last season.
Meanwhile, he also created 10 chances, completed 12 successful dribbles, won 147 duels and 50 fouls, as well as completing 42 tackles and 102 recoveries respectively.
Meddah added a goal and two assists to his tally, whilst also effectively splitting his time playing centre-back and in defensive midfield, highlighting his ball-playing ability even further.
The Frenchman could be a very shrewd acquisition due to this versatility, whilst offering Rohl with a different option in central defence to help build his attacking play from the back.
What is Meddah’s contract situation at Pau?
As aforementioned, Meddah only penned a permanent deal with Pau last summer, having previously spent time there on loan during the 2024-25 season.
Upon joining them permanently, he signed a two-year contract, meaning he’s entering the final 12 months of his deal this summer.
That could work in Rangers’ favour too, as Pau will know that cashing in on him over the coming weeks perhaps represents their best chance to bank as big a fee for him as possible.
So, given he’s still only 23 and that his ball-playing ability would bring something totally different to Rangers’ centre-back room, Meddah is certainly a name that should be back on Gers’ transfer agenda.
