Motherwell may want to keep Elliot Watt after all amid recent links to Rangers.

The Bears have already completed their first signing of the summer with Lawrence Shankland, but it won’t stop there.

Danny Rohl wants to add to his midfield, and Watt is a name that has been linked with a move to Ibrox fairly heavily in recent weeks.

The Scot played a crucial role for the Steelmen this season, and after losing Jens Berthel Askou, they won’t want to lose their star man either.

However, Rangers appear to be keen on signing Watt next, but Motherwell may not go easy in negotiations.

The 25-year-old has been on top form for Berthel Askou this season, but since his manager’s departure, links to Ibrox have only picked up.

Some Motherwell fans will be hoping this is soft-launching a new contract for the midfielder, while it could also be a sign that the Steelmen are trying to flaunt their best asset to get every penny possible out of Gers.

Either way, Motherwell are up to something, as Rangers may have to make an offer soon.

Motherwell have reportedly set Watt’s asking price as a seven-figure fee, though the specific amount of millions is unknown.

The midfielder isn’t even in his peak years yet, but is already one of the best in the Scottish Premiership at controlling the tempo of a game, and having an influence at both ends of the pitch.

Watt’s Transfermarkt value is £1.73million, though this could be awaiting an update after his magnificent season.

Gers should have £5m ready to pounce, but no more than that, as Sunderland’s Neil would offer more leadership ability than the technical skills that Watt has.

It all depends on what suits Rohl best, but in an ideal world, Gers would have both.
