Josh Windass to Rangers transfer not on cards after social media fire

Josh Windass is once again being linked with a move to Rangers this summer.

Just days after football in England and Scotland came to an end for the season, the Wrexham winger is in the media as a possible signing for Danny Rohl.

Rangers were said to have made an approach for Windass already, with Lawrence Shankland set to become the first summer signing at Ibrox.

Andrew Cavenagh has backed Rohl despite a disappointing end to the Scottish Premiership, and that has already become evident in the transfer market.

For Rangers, it will be another summer full of transfer changes.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

Josh Windass won’t be signing for Rangers

Despite heavy changes coming, with Dan Neil set to follow Shankland, it appears that Windass won’t be making it three in Govan, at this stage.

After social media links were said to have caught fire, Chris Jack immediately checked them out to update those asking questions online.

Speaking on the Rangers Review on Tuesday, Jack revealed that Windass is not on the agenda for those at Ibrox, and he won’t be signing.

“This is not one that we believe is on the agenda,” he said.

“This is not one that Rangers are pursuing, as it stands, you mentioned that he has that relationship with Danny Rohl from Sheffield Wednesday.

“That makes it an easy link to make, but I checked this out and got very little encouragement on it. It was one that caught a bit of fire on social media.”

What is next for Rangers in transfer market?

So, with Windass not coming in, all eyes are other targets.

Shankland and Neil would be solid business, with more local UK talent being delivered as promised in recent months by Cavenagh and Co.

Windass would have added to that, but you would expect that Findlay Curtis will come back to Ibrox like a new player after his sensational loan at Kilmarnock.

With Curtis also set for the World Cup with Scotland, it will be a huge year ahead for the young winger, who simply has to be backed at Ibrox by Rohl.

Rangers fans would rather a new contract for the winger, rather than sign an older head like Windass.

With Shankland joining other strikers like Youssef Chermiti, Ryan Naderi, and Bojan Miovski, a two-up-top formation will likely be used.

So, more stability in defence and midfield is likely to follow, rather than another pointless winger signing who is coming closer to the end of his career than the start.
