Zander Hutton: Rangers teen could have crack at James Tavernier successor after Hamilton exploits
Zander Hutton enjoyed a strong loan spell with Hamilton in 2025-26, as Rangers begin their search for James Tavernier’s successor.
It’s going to be a big summer of change at Ibrox over the coming weeks, as Danny Rohl looks to put together a side that can go all the way in the Scottish Premiership next season.
Gers’ post-split form highlighted some major weaknesses in the squad, and painted a clear picture of what needs to be added.
One of the big priorities is to sort out their right-back position, with Tavernier leaving Ibrox upon the conclusion of his contract.
It remains to be seen whether Rangers feel they need to dip into the market to find his replacement, or whether Ibrox decision-makers feel they have a solution already in-house.

Hutton signed for Hamilton on loan last summer, joining the League One outfit for the duration of the 2025-26 campaign.
It was a crazy term for the Accies, after the club were docked a total of 21 points for various rule breaks as well as failing to pay players’ wages on time respectively.
However, they were still able to stay up in League One after finishing ninth, before beating Clyde in the two-legged play-off games for a place in Scotland’s third tier.
Hutton played a key role for Hamilton, turning out in 29 of their 36 league games as well as playing a total of 36 times for them in all competitions.
The teenage right-back scored once and provided six assists in all competitions for the Accies, with one of those strikes and four assists coming in the league.
Hutton’s Hamilton loan spell will have been great for him
Hutton’s loan spell with Hamilton will have been an invaluable learning experience for the young defender.
From numerous points deductions to a relegation play-off; the full-back was a big part of the Accies’ campaign, getting a good feel for what it’s like to be a key player in a side.
If Hutton is to eventually evolve into a Rangers first-team player, then being able to handle that pressure is an essential ingredient to Ibrox success.
So, to get exposed to that early on in his career is excellent for Hutton, and he should head into this upcoming pre-season confident that he can make an impression on Rohl.
