Rangers hold the cards as Danilo eager to fulfil transfer dream this summer

Rangers are likely to hold the cards as forward Danilo has admitted he is eager to join Corinthians.

The 27-year-old has spent the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan in the Netherlands with NEC Nijmegen.

NEC have the option to make that deal permanent, but there has been no suggestion that will happen.

Danilo has one goal and one assist in 11 Eredivisie appearances, 10 of those coming via the substitutes’ bench.

Rangers are unlikely to have any plans for Danilo, either, which could actually be good news for the former Brazil age-grade international.

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

Danilo makes stance on Rangers future quite clear

Danny Rohl had no plans for Danilo, with his winter exit making sense for everyone, and that is unlikely to change.

The forward scored three goals in 19 appearances for Rangers in the first half of the season and it became clear he was heading for the Ibrox exit.

Danilo’s record for NEC in Eredivisie this season

In an ideal world, NEC would trigger the option to purchase Danilo permanently and the Gers can then move on.

However, that does not look like happening and Rangers will once again be stuck with Danilo on their books.

The bad news is that Danilo is under contract with Rangers until 2028, having penned a five-year deal upon joining in 2023.

But in a new interview with ESPN Brasil, Danilo has revealed he would love to join two-time Club World Cup winners Corinthians.

“It’d be an honour for me,” he said. “I was born in Itaquera. There’s no escaping it: Corinthians is in your blood. My whole family are fanatic supporters.”

Memphis Depay, the Netherlands’ all-time record goalscorer, currently plies his trade for the Brazilian club.

Danilo move to Corinthians not far-fetched after previous development

Danilo was touted as a target for numerous clubs around the turn of the year, before eventually getting a move to NEC.

It was reported at the time that Corinthians were among the sides to have made contact with Danilo’s camp.

How far that interested went, or why a move did not happen, is unknown.

However, it suggests a deal could potentially be there for Rangers to work towards this summer.

Rohl intends to strengthen his squad, so bringing back Danilo just makes no sense to anyone.
