Jim Goodwin not surprised at Rangers interest in ‘exceptional’ Amar Fatah – stats prove he’s right
Jim Goodwin admits he’s “not surprised” that Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Amar Fatah this summer.
The Dundee United manager sampled the talents of the 22-year-old forward this season, having bagged his season-long loan signature from French side Troyes.
A Swedish youth international, Fatah was largely an unknown quantity for the Terrors upon signing for them last summer, having not played an awful lot of senior football in his career to that point.
He was fresh off the back of making 22 appearances in the Eredivisie in 2024-25 for Dutch side Willem II, but his 23 total outings for them that year was the most he’d made in a single season at that stage of his career.
United would prove to have been wise to secure his services though, and after an impressive 2025-26 campaign at Tannadice Park, he may now be on Rangers’ summer transfer shortlist.

What did Jim Goodwin say on Rangers’ Amar Fatah interest?
Rangers have been linked with signing Fatah in the upcoming summer window, as Danny Rohl looks to bolster his cutting edge in attack.
The versatile forward is contracted with Troyes until the summer of 2027, meaning the French outfit – who have just won the Ligue 2 title in 2025-26 – could be inclined to cash in on him whilst they still can.

The youngster certainly will have boosted his transfer value due to his exploits with Dundee United this past season, where he scored nine times and provided four assists in 34 total appearances.
Tangerines boss, Goodwin, has been asked for his thoughts on Rangers’ reported interest in Fatah, and as quoted via the Scottish Sun, he’s given his loanee a glowing review.
“I’m not surprised because I think Amar’s performances for Dundee United have been exceptional,” Goodwin said.
“Like any young player, he’s had little moments – little lulls if you like – but they’ve never dragged on for too long.
“He maybe had a bad game here and there but very quickly after that he goes and performs to a high level again. He’s been an absolute pleasure to work with.
“Whether Rangers are interested in Amar or not I don’t know but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest because I think he’s been one of the best performers in his position on a consistent basis throughout the season.
“Against Rangers at Ibrox last time out, he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.”
What would Fatah bring to Rangers?
Primarily a left winger, but capable of playing anywhere across the forward line, Fatah could be an obvious long-term replacement for Mikey Moore.
Whilst not a player with blazing speed, his dribbling, ability to play in confined spaces and his confident approach present full-backs with major headaches when trying to stop him.
As per FotMob, Fatah registered a crossing accuracy of 40.8 per cent in the Scottish Premiership in 2025-26, which ranked him in the top three percentile of all left wingers in the division.

He also scored three penalties, the most of any of his positional rivals in the Scottish top flight, whilst also recording 39 successful dribbles and 133 duels won, with his 35 aerial duel wins placing him in the top 4.5 percentile respectively.
Fatah took 98 touches in the opposition box, won 27 fouls, made 65 defensive contributions and created 22 chances to boot, showing his all-round impact at Tannadice this past term.
A versatile, ascending talent who has proven himself at Scottish Premiership level, Fatah could be a slam dunk signing for Rangers this summer.
