Barry Ferguson open to Rangers backroom role, has good relationship with Andrew Cavenagh

Barry Ferguson would be willing to help Danny Rohl as a member of the Rangers backroom staff ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

When asked by a Gers fan whether he would accept being part of the inner workings at Ibrox, the Glaswegian outfit’s former interim manager is open to helping the team in any way he can.

Ferguson has revealed that he has a good relationship with Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, as he currently works in an ambassadorial capacity.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has endured a difficult end to the season and fans in G51 are now demanding changes.

Rohl could do with Ferguson’s experience at the Govan side, but it remains to be seen whether the Ibrox hierarchy is willing to bring in the Gers icon in the summer to support the German manager.

Barry Ferguson knows what it takes to succeed at Rangers

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 18 May, Ferguson said, “I’m always there to help Rangers in whatever way. Obviously, now I’m back at the club as an ambassador. I’ve got good relationships with the board and people around the club. So I would do anything to help my club.”

After Philippe Clement was sacked at the Gers last season, it was the former title-winning captain who took over the team.

Ferguson brought Neil McCann, Billy Dodds and Allan McGregor with him, immediately turning the mood around at Ibrox.

Ferguson’s record as interim Rangers manager

While the former midfielder, who won five league titles as a player in Govan, wasn’t able to bring consistency to the team’s domestic form as interim boss, he did provide a few special moments in Europe, beating Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

Rohl’s lack of experience arguably cost him the William Hill Premiership title and the 37-year-old head coach clearly needs more support in G51.

Andrew Cavenagh yet to make crucial appointments at Ibrox

Rangers are yet to replace Kevin Thelwell after sacking the former sporting director and Patrick Stewart midway through the season.

While Jim Gillespie has been appointed the new CEO, the recruitment department still has a significant leadership gap.

Cavenagh appointed Stig Inge Bjornebye as a consultant in December, but there seems to be no clear strategy regarding transfers going into the summer.

The American owners have endured a difficult year at Ibrox and they certainly won’t be afforded more time by the Gers fanbase if they can’t learn from their mistakes soon.
