Danny Rohl’s Rangers exit may cost Wolfsburg a pretty penny, Andrew Cavenagh should take it

Danny Rohl doesn’t have an exit clause in his Rangers contract amid interest from VfL Wolfsburg.

In an interview with German media on 18 May, the 37-year-old head coach dismissed rumours of a move to the Bundesliga.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss was quizzed about Wolfsburg potentially making an offer to him, but the German manager’s full focus is at the Gers for now.

If a possible exit to the Volkswagen Arena were on the cards for Rohl, the Light Blues would certainly demand a pretty penny in compensation for his departure.

Rohl’s current contract at Ibrox runs until the summer of 2028, and Andrew Cavenagh shouldn’t hesitate to accept a significant sum for his exit in the coming weeks.

Danny Rohl can’t be enjoying Rangers tenure

When asked about there being any concrete offers on the table, Rohl said, “There are probably a lot of rumours circulating. It was the same last summer. If you go by speculation, I would have already had 15 coaching positions. My focus is here in Glasgow. I like the job because I can compete for titles here. And internationally as well. And that’s a very good opportunity that I really enjoy.”

Regarding an exit clause, the German manager added, “No, I don’t have them.”

Rohl was appointed to the Gers amid a difficult period following Russell Martin’s tumultuous reign.

When the ex-Owls boss arrived at Ibrox, the Light Blues were 13 points behind the league leaders, with fans having lost all hope of winning silverware.

Rangers’ league record under Rohl

The German manager quickly turned the tide at the Glaswegian outfit and got them back into title contention, which was arguably a remarkable feat.

Despite all of Rohl’s good work, the disappointing end to the season has effectively tarnished his reputation among a section of the fanbase and the relatively inexperienced head coach certainly won’t be enjoying the criticism right now.

Andrew Cavenagh to implement a clean break at Ibrox

Rohl managed to paper over the cracks at Rangers for a few months, but it’s clear that Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have a lot of work to do in the upcoming transfer window.

While there’s a willingness to continue with the project the German manager is building at the Gers, some supporters wouldn’t mind seeing their team make a clean break with the head coach.

What’s clear is that fans are already starting to turn on Rohl and the atmosphere will only get more toxic if he has a poor start in the 2026-27 campaign.

Cavenagh will then be left with the same problem he had with Martin and letting things continue to get worse will only hurt the Americans’ standing among the Ibrox faithful.
