Danny Rohl to jump ship at Rangers, Chris Sutton sees manager lose spark at Ibrox

Danny Rohl could potentially leave Rangers for VfL Wolfsburg ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

That’s what Chris Sutton believes, and it wouldn’t surprise him to see the German manager pack his bags at Ibrox after a difficult spell in recent weeks.

Wolfsburg have been linked with Rohl and the former Celtic ace feels he would jump at the opportunity after losing faith among some supporters in G51.

Four losses on the bounce after the split have left Gers fans frustrated with the former Sheffield Wednesday boss and the handling of James Tavernier’s farewell hasn’t helped matters either.

Rohl is expected to be backed by the Ibrox hierarchy in the summer, but it remains to be seen whether the 37-year-old head coach decides to move on after a tough spell in Govan.

Andrew Cavenagh has major Danny Rohl dilemma at Rangers

Speaking on The Warm Up on 17 May, Sutton said, “Things are creaking for him and it’s amazing to think that those four straight defeats and going out of a title race, where Rangers seemed to be building and everything heading in the right direction to them going back to what it has been in previous seasons. And the Tavernier stuff, I don’t think a lot of Rangers supporters will like Rohl for that whole situation.

“So you mentioned him being linked with Wolfsburg. It wouldn’t surprise me, just seeing with every passing interview that he’s not the same confident swaggering Rohl. I think if he got the opportunity to leave he would leave. And maybe Rangers will have to make a decision on him anyway.”

Andrew Cavenagh is fully behind Rohl and is willing to give him the time and resources to get the Gers back to the top.

The German manager is seen as the right man for the job, despite an underwhelming end to the season.

Before the split, the Light Blues were in control of their destiny in the title race, but the ex-Owls boss and his team couldn’t cope with the pressure.

It isn’t an encouraging sign for the American owners that fans in G51 are slowly losing faith in Rohl, and if things don’t change at the start of next season, the Ibrox hierarchy may be forced into making an early change.

Danny Rohl replacement evident at Ibrox

Rangers wanted Steven Gerrard back last summer and after sacking Russell Martin, but the Liverpool icon’s return didn’t end up materialising.

Steven Gerrard Rangers win rate

The former England international is still out of a job and could potentially be an option to replace Rohl at the Gers.

While supporters have mixed feelings about Gerrard’s time at the Light Blues, he delivered number 55 at Ibrox before moving to Aston Villa.

The ex-midfielder could potentially be the perfect option to deliver major honours at the Glaswegian outfit next season, but it remains to be seen whether Cavenagh is bold enough to make that call.
