Danny Rohl should get ready for Rangers P45 as repercussions for James Tavernier omission to follow

Danny Rohl risks losing the Rangers squad after the drama surrounding James Tavernier against Hibernian on Wednesday.

The Gers captain wasn’t part of the squad in what would have been his final appearance at Ibrox on 13 May, with the German manager claiming that the right-back didn’t want to be a part of it after being told he wouldn’t be starting in the 2-1 loss to Hibs.

Tavernier seems to have had a falling-out with Rohl, and while the 37-year-old head coach said that he would have played a part against Hibernian, it remains to be seen what the veteran defender’s view is on the situation.

The 34-year-old is certainly a respected figure in the dressing room, and the way in which the former Sheffield Wednesday boss has gone about things at the Glaswegian outfit will surely leave some players with a bitter feeling.

Rohl now risks losing players at Ibrox ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and the repercussions of his disagreement with the captain may lead the Govan side to issue his P45 sooner rather than later.

Rangers can’t catch a break after James Tavernier drama vs Hibernian

With the game against Hibernian effectively a dead rubber, as the Gers are guaranteed to stay third in the William Hill Premiership, Rohl definitely chose the wrong time to make a point.

Tavernier is ending his 11-year stint at Ibrox, and apart from players in the dressing room probably disagreeing with the German manager’s decision, some sections of the fanbase also feel it was unnecessary.

The right-back has been a loyal servant for the Light Blues throughout the years, and no matter how supporters feel about him, the captain undoubtedly deserved a better send-off.

In a season that looked to be on the up before the start of the post-split fixtures, Rohl has certainly undone all the good work of the last few months by souring the mood at the Govan side.

Danny Rohl his own worst enemy at Ibrox

After Tavernier’s withdrawal from the squad, Rohl would have been questioned regardless of the result, but losing to Hibernian has only compounded the misery.

It’s now four straight defeats for Rangers in the league, something that hasn’t happened since 1983, rightly leading to doubts over his future.

The situation with Tavernier makes it look like the German manager is also losing the dressing room now, which will be a major concern for Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises.

If the American owners had nothing to worry about regarding the German manager before, they may now have to reassess his ability to lead the Glaswegian outfit going forward.
