Danny Rohl wastes everyone’s time as Rangers starting XI named vs Hibernian

Danny Rohl has named his Rangers starting XI to face Hibernian on Wednesday.

The Gers are totally out of the Scottish Premiership title race with two games to go after their Old Firm defeat last time out.

Despite taking the lead through Mikey Moore at Parkhead, Martin O’Neill’s side proved that the G51 outfit aren’t ready to win the league.

That leaves the Light Blues with two games to go and nothing but pride to play for as the summer break looms in Govan.

Rangers are now set to face Hibernian in their final Ibrox clash of the season, although the team news is hardly what fans wanted to see.

A 3-1 away defeat in the derby was certainly not the way that the Gers wanted their title hunt to end, but that’s how it happened.

The Hoops rode out an early storm from the away side and went on to take their chances, while Daizen Maeda scored an absolute stunner.

That was the final nail in the coffin, and now leaves the Light Blues with nothing to play for, but it doesn’t appear that Rohl has noticed.

The German has still decided to start Jack Butland in goal, with Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez and Tuur Rommens keeping their places, meaning James Tavernier’s replacement by Dujon Sterling is the only defensive change.

Connor Barron has remained in the side, while Thelo Aasgaard has come in for Tochi Chukwuani to join Mohammed Diomande and Oliver Antman.

Moore remains on the flank, while Youssef Chermiti is ready to lead the line once again after his assist in the Old Firm.

Rangers have nothing to play for against Hibs, so naming a side full of just first-team regulars makes absolutely no sense.

Danny Rohl should have given academy talents a chance

If the Light Blues win, lose or draw against David Gray’s side, the impact on their league status will be essentially identical.

Motherwell can’t catch them with a seven-point gap and only six points remaining, so there is no threat of moving up or down the table in the final two games.

It would have been the perfect opportunity for star academy players like Kyle Glasgow, Ashton Scally, Zebedee Lawson and Aiden McCallion to get some invaluable senior minutes.

They could well be the future at Ibrox, but Rohl is seemingly unwilling to give them a chance in such a meaningless fixture.

Those who are loyal enough to turn up on Wednesday have ultimately been let down and have had their time wasted by the German’s selection.
