Scott Allan put on the spot with Celtic vs Rangers question, he doesn’t quite know how to respond

Scott Allan doesn’t quite know what will happen on Sunday as Rangers travel to face Celtic.

Back-to-back defeats against Motherwell and Hearts have all but ended Danny Rohl’s hopes of silverware this season, but there are still three games to play.

The Gers may have fallen behind in the Scottish Premiership title race, but they can still have a massive say on the end result.

An Old Firm clash at Parkhead is on the horizon with Martin O’Neill’s side welcoming the chance of going just one point behind Hearts with two games to go.

Rangers will hope to be party poopers for Celtic in a clash that former midfielder Allan has seriously struggled to predict.

Scott Allan stumbles over Celtic vs Rangers question

There is plenty of frustration surrounding Ibrox right now as their faint title hopes were dealt a double blow with two recent losses.

The Light Blues have the chance to make up for those with an away win in the Old Firm after failing to lose in a league derby since September 2024.

That could give the Govan outfit the perfect opportunity to go and derail their biggest rivals’ title hopes, even if their own have been dashed.

The question will be what kind of performance we will see from both sides, especially after Celtic were given fresh hope after Hearts drew with Motherwell on Saturday.

That prompted Sportscene host Steven Thompson to ask former Celtic man Allan what he thinks could happen at Celtic Park.

He asked: “Their home record this season, Motherwell, has been outstanding. They are capable of beating anybody at Fir Park, so that game isn’t a given for Celtic. First of all they’ve got the game tomorrow, how do you see tomorrow going?”

Allan clearly didn’t know what to say, replying: “Very hard to call. If you look at the games they’ve played against each other all season, very hard. They’ve played in spells, both teams, but there’s just so much riding on it, especially for Celtic.

“I think they know. They’ll see that tonight [Motherwell 1-1 Hearts], they’ll see it as a chance they can get really close to Hearts, a point behind going into Wednesday. I think Celtic Park will be so lively.”

Rangers will be hoping to secure victory over Celtic, but they need to be at their best if they are to get back to winning ways.

Rangers already know how to beat Celtic

The Gers have already shown this campaign that they have what it takes to take all three points away from their most bitter rivals.

A Youssef Chermiti brace was added to by a Mikey Moore strike earlier in the campaign as Rohl’s men secured three points at Parkhead.

That saw the away side take their chances when they came, despite the hosts having more of the ball and the better of the chances.

The Ibrox side will have to be patient and bide their time again, but the added chance to damage the Hoops’ title hopes should be a boost to the Light Blues.

Allan doesn’t quite know how to call it, but Rangers need to make sure that there are no questions once the Old Firm gets underway.
