Rangers fragility on show vs Celtic as Danny Rohl makes history books for all the wrong reasons

Rangers suffered a 3-1 defeat against Celtic on Sunday, despite having taken an early lead.

As has been the case in many of Rangers’ fixtures this season, there were countless moments of controversy at Parkhead, though at this point, that is no longer an excuse.

The Light Blues simply collapsed after Mikey Moore had taken the lead, with the Bhoys levelling the game 14 minutes later, and going on to score a further two in the second half.

Rangers’ title hopes were slim at best before the game, and they were officially ended with the defeat.

And while that will take the headlines, plenty will be made of the future of Danny Rohl, who will now see his name plastered alongside an unwanted record.

Rangers’ promising unbeaten record comes to an end vs Celtic

It wasn’t just Rangers’ title hopes that were ended against Celtic, but also their record at Parkhead.

The Gers had previously gone unbeaten in their last 23 encounters away to Celtic in which they had scored first, but they couldn’t repeat that on Sunday.

Instead, the Light Blues collapsed after Celtic’s controversial equalising goal, with two early goals in the second half making sure that the hosts would seal all three points.

Quality was lacking in the second half, but the biggest miss was the mentality that had brought them plenty of success over the years.

Rohl will now be known as the manager who saw that run come to an end, and with his future likely to be debated after such a calamitous end of the season, it will do him no favours.

Could Rangers move to sack Danny Rohl?

Being the Rangers manager comes with a lot of expectations, many of which Rohl has already failed to reach.

And with title hopes officially over, and plenty of frailties on show,m the German’s future is certainly up in the air.

Steven Gerrard has been mooted for a return to Rangers, and if he were to show a willingness to do so, it would not be a shock to see Rohl moved on.
