Chris Sutton loses all credibility as a pundit with comical view on Celtic vs Rangers controversy
Chris Sutton’s credibility is at an all-time low after Celtic’s 3-1 victory against Rangers on Sunday.
The Hoops were better than Danny Rohl’s side and secured a vital three points in the Parkhead contest, putting the Gers out of the title race.
Sky Sports pundit Sutton, as usual, could not hide his bias towards the hosts, and he can’t be taken seriously after his take on Alistair Johnston’s horror tackle.
The Canadian defender should have been dismissed, but neither referee Nick Walsh or the video assistant referee made that decision.
Rangers were very aggrieved by the no-call, and Sutton’s view will make them rage even more as it is utterly comical.

Sutton is surely ragebaiting Rangers fans after Celtic win
Rangers had several controversial decisions go against them in the latest instalment of the Old Firm clash.
However, none were more egregious than Johnson’s tackle, which he was shown a yellow card for, on Mikey Moore.
He took the ball, but he was also high, two-footed and caught the Ibrox star in the ankle in the aftermath.
Taking to X after the contest, Sutton dismissed the idea that it should have seen red, saying: “Engels excelled today, Celtic greater legs in the middle of the park when he plays.
“Alistair Johnston such a difference at right back, Celtic have toiled all season in that position with him out like a man down.
“Deserved a yellow, not red as many of the straw clutchers claimed…”
Why is Sutton’s take so outrageous?
Michael Stewart, who is often the subject of criticism from Gers supporters for his takes on their club, agreed that it was a blatant red card.
He said: “A good many people feared VAR/officiating would have a huge part to play in the title race.
“Hopefully it isn’t decisive but deary me. How the VAR can look at the replays and not see a red card has occurred is wild.”
He is right, it was a ‘clear and obvious’ mistake, which is supposed to be the criteria for VAR intervention, but was not on this occasion.
Danny Rohl will be furious, as if Johnson was sent off, it could have completely changed the game, but he can’t rely on that.
The performance was not good enough, and standards in Govan are not what they used to be, and it is his job to get them back up to scratch.
Still, Sutton is unable to put his personal feelings aside when it comes to the Gers, and he shouldn’t be allowed to cover them in a professional capacity as he has lost all credibility with his latest outburst.
He surely can’t actually believe what he has typed out and posted on social media because it is truly baffling if he does.
