Richard Keys sums up Rangers’ title heartbreak with latest Andy Gray jibe

Richard Keys couldn’t help but bring up Andy Gray when discussing Rangers heartbreak in the Scottish Premiership title race.

While it is not mathematically over for Danny Rohl’s side, the 2-1 loss at Tynecastle has effectively ruled them out of winning the league.

Rangers sit seven points behind the Jam Tarts with just three games left of the season. Derek McInnes’ side just need one win to eliminate the Gers from the race.

Hearts would need to have quite the slip for Rohl’s men to even have a glimmer of hope.

It is not the conclusion that fans would have wanted, with Keys now playfully delivering a jibe towards Gray about Rangers’ unfortunate end to the season.

What has Richard Keys said about Andy Gray and Rangers?

Reaction has continued to swarm in after Rangers faltered in their hunt for Scottish title number 56 this season.

The Gers only have themselves to blame, allowing a 1-0 lead to fall out of their grasp, with Hearts taking full advantage of Rangers’ lack of experience.

One of those to react was presenter Keys.

Writing in his Richard Keys blog, the presenter commented on Rangers’ loss to Hearts by taking the chance to deliver a joking jab towards broadcasting partner Gray.

He wrote: “I haven’t spoken to Andy yet. He’ll be inconsolable that Rangers are out of the race in Scotland.”

The comment was clearly tongue-in-cheek, but it perhaps sums up the general angst fans have been feeling over the last few days.

Rangers had the chance to achieve something special, and before the league split, hope had arisen that they were on that trajectory.

Rohl had a monumental job to overcome, with a sizeable gap to Hearts at the time of taking over. Nonetheless, like Keys suggests about Gray, that will not help ease frustration right now.

Why Rangers cannot afford to take their foot off the gas

While the Scottish Premiership title will not be coming to Ibrox, the Gers still have plenty to play for this season.

Second place in the league will secure a pathway into the Champions League by entering the second qualifying round of Europe’s premier tournament.

Rangers are sitting four points behind Celtic, meaning this weekend’s Old Firm fixture still has plenty on the line besides just bragging points.

Winning the league would have been a sweet feeling, but for the Bears, stopping Glasgow rivals Celtic from becoming champions would be the cherry on top as well.

Rohl must rally his troops and put the disappointment behind them. There is still plenty of work to do, and the G51 outfit must not put themselves on the beach.
