Djeidi Gassama primed for second-season Rangers leap as his numbers prove
Djeidi Gassama is posting underlying numbers that suggest he’s ready to take a significant step forward at Rangers in 2026-27.
Signed by Rangers last summer from Sheffield Wednesday for a little over £2million, Gassama has split opinion amongst the Ibrox faithful this season.
The 22-year-old has dipped in and out of form over the course of the campaign, eliciting both praise and frustration from supporters as a result, but mainly the latter over his struggles staying consistent.
However, he’s a versatile forward who evidently has bags of talent residing in his boots, but how best to get that out of him remains the question going forward in Glasgow.
But, with just four games to play this season, Gassama could yet have a big say on whether Rangers are crowned champions of Scotland for 2025-26.

How good are Djeidi Gassama’s underlying Rangers numbers?
Rangers fans are still warming to Gassama, and the former Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate is yet to win them all over.
But, he has been a reliable presence in terms of his availability during his debut season in Scotland, as he currently sits on 52 total appearances with eight goals and five assists in all competitions to boot.

Now back under the management of Danny Rohl, for whom he starred with Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Championship previously, there probably isn’t a coach who knows how to unlock Gassama’s potential like the Rangers boss.
And, whilst he has hit peaks and troughs this season, when you peel back the curtain on his performances, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest he’s on the verge of real stardom at Ibrox.
As per FotMob, Gassama has taken 64 shots in the Scottish Premiership this term, whilst playing 529 successful passes and creating 39 chances.
He’s completed 55 dribbles, won 161 duels and three penalties, as well as taking 157 touches in the opposition box, which no Scottish Premiership player in his position has been able to better in 2025-26.

Only Mikey Moore (2.7) and Youssef Chermiti (3.6) average more shots per 90 than Gassama’s 2.5 this season, whilst just James Tavernier (17) and Nicolas Raskin (12) have created more big chances than his sseven respectively.
Gassama’s 2.2 successful dribbles per game are also the highest of any Rangers player too, showing just how much of a threat he’s been when in possession.
At 22, these numbers are highly impressive, and given his age, there’s still evidently so much further room for growth too, so there are plenty of reasons to believe that Gassama will only get better next season.
Rangers need to settle Gassama into a consistent position
Being a versatile player comes with its perks, as Gassama can find more ways into the Rangers team than others.
However, the flip side of that is that he’s consistently being deployed between the left and the right flanks, and that can disrupt his rhythm for cementing a certain role in the side.
Gassama’s underlying numbers prove just how much of a player is in there, and at 22, he’s still so young and has an abundance of time to reach his potential at Ibrox.
So, he’s ready to take a big jump in 2026-27, and to help him accomplish that, mapping out a clear and consistent position in the team would be a wise move.
