Gary Lineker & Micah Richards react to Rangers latest in Scottish Premiership title race – ‘Bonkers’
Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have described the Scottish Premiership as “complicated”, whilst discussing Rangers‘ position in the title race.
Danny Rohl‘s side have seen their title chances take a hit following Sunday’s defeat to Motherwell, with things now really starting to heat up at the top.
With both Hearts and Celtic winning, the pressure is now on Rangers to go to Tynecastle on 4 May and win, otherwise, that could be curtains for their hopes of being crowned champions.
This post-split time of the season is the part of term where every Scottish football fan looks forward to the most, as the best play the best to determine the fate of the title, as well as European places.
It’s a unique system, however, and with just four games to play, both Lineker and Richards have revealed that they are far from clued up on how it all works north of the border.

What Gary Lineker & Micah Richards said on Scottish Premiership
Rangers could lose the title on fine margins after the defeat to Motherwell, as it was an afternoon at Ibrox that saw gilt-edged chances spurned and soft goals conceded.
As such, Hearts have now jumped into a three-point lead over Celtic at the top, and have opened up a four-point advantage to Rangers ahead of their clash at Tynecastle next Monday.

The 2025-26 Scottish Premiership title race has been one of the most exciting and open in many years, and that’s undoubtedly helped draw more eyes to the division from outside of Scotland.
And so, when speaking on The Rest is Football podcast following the weekend’s action, Lineker and Richards discussed what’s been happening in the Scottish Premiership.
Neither of them ever played in Scotland, and that has been shown as they confess to not knowing an awful lot about how the league system works here.
After talking about Richards’ involvement in the Baller League, Lineker then said: “Is it (Baller League) as complicated as the top of Scottish football in the Premiership?”
Laughing, Richards then replied: “Please, can someone from Scottish football please come on and explain how it works!
“I look at the table, and I know it splits and then it could be a play-off”. Lineker then jumped back in, saying: “It’s the top six isn’t it at the end.
“It is a bit bonkers. It’s different from anywhere else I think on the planet.”
What did Lineker and Richards say about Rangers & title race?
In fairness to Lineker and Richards, if they aren’t brushed up on how the Scottish Premiership system works, it can look a bit confusing.
However, once people learn that it’s nothing more than the league being split in two after 33 games have been played, it’s really not that hard to grasp.
Speaking on Rangers’ position in the title race and the weekend’s results, Lineker said: “I saw Hearts came from behind. I know that Hibs, in the derby there, got a couple sent off.

“Rangers were two down, got to 2-2 and then lost. It’s really tight. I think most neutrals outside of Scotland, and probably a lot of people in Scotland, although pretty much everyone supports Celtic or Rangers I guess.
“But would like to see Hearts do it, because what is it, 40 years since a non-Rangers or Celtic team won? But it’s all a bit mad up there.”
