Nicolas Raskin: Aiden McGeady criticism of Rangers midfielder shows he’s utterly clueless
Nicolas Raskin has arguably been one of the best Rangers players this season.
The midfielder had a slow start under Russell Martin after an apparent falling-out with the Scottish head coach, but things have been on an upward trajectory since.
There were talks of Raskin potentially leaving Ibrox last summer because the former Southampton boss didn’t fancy the Belgian star, but he stayed put.
Danny Rohl is now bringing the best out of the 25-year-old at the Gers, but for the likes of Aiden McGeady, that still isn’t enough, criticising him for being inconsistent, which is debatable.
Raskin’s influence in the William Hill Premiership has been evident to everyone this season, except, it seems, the former Celtic winger.

Nicolas Raskin the difference-maker for Rangers in 2026
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on 22 April, McGeady said, “I think Raskin does have quality, but more inconsistent for me to be honest. When Rangers are playing poorly, I think he’s one of the better players. But see, when Rangers have started to pick up a bit of form, he’s not spoken about that much. He’s not the main driving force.”
It’s clear that the uncertainty surrounding Raskin’s future under Martin affected the midfielder, but that shouldn’t count against his contribution this season.
The Belgium international has been exceptional for the Gers since the turn of the year, putting in mammoth performances against Celtic and Aberdeen at the start of January.

It was the former Standard Liege ace who scored for the Light Blues against Motherwell at Fir Park, but a late goal from the hosts saw the game end in a 1-1 draw.
In March, on Aberdeen’s visit to Ibrox, the midfielder was once again on the scoresheet and has been running most games since the turn of the year.
Raskin’s display against Falkirk in the 6-3 comeback win for the Govan side highlighted just how important he is for them, regardless of form, highlighting how utterly clueless the former Celtic player is with his comments.
Andrew Cavenagh has Ibrox summer dilemma
McGeady also went on to say that he didn’t believe Raskin was worth £20million at Rangers, something Charlie Adams recently suggested.
If the Belgian ace goes on to end the season on a high with the Gers and performs well at the 2026 World Cup, there’s no reason why he won’t end up being the biggest sale in history at Ibrox.
Andrew Cavenagh will undoubtedly have a tough decision to make if a significant offer arrives for the midfielder in the summer, with two years left of his deal at the Glaswegian outfit at the end of the season.
Raskin’s future will surely be high on the Ibrox faithful’s agenda.
