Rangers: Oscar Cortes’ contract examined after failed Huracan loan deal
Rangers haven’t seen the best of Oscar Cortes since letting him out on loan to Huracan.
The 22-year-old departed Ibrox in the summer as Russell Martin allowed him to join Spanish outfit Sporting Gijon.
Things didn’t work out in LaLiga2, as his loan deal was cut short after just eight appearances, and he was sent back to Govan.
The Gers didn’t mess around, and a new temporary deal was agreed with the Argentine outfit, but things haven’t worked out there either.
Cortes looks destined to come back to Rangers in the summer, as we now assess what we know about his current deal in G51.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
What is Oscar Cortes’ contract situation at Rangers?
There were high expectations for the winger when he completed an initial loan switch to Govan from Lens in January 2024.
He wasn’t spectacular in that spell, but still completed a permanent deal and remained in the Scottish Premiership, despite being hit hard by injuries.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2025-26 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| 2024-25 | 11 | 0 | 0 |
| 2023-24 | 7 | 1 | 2 |
The Colombian joined the Gers for £4.5million, a fee which has been much discussed and slammed by supporters at Ibrox and beyond.
As part of that deal, he penned a contract that will last until the summer of 2029, securing his Gers future for years to come.

He is reportedly paid a figure in the region of £6,000-9,000 per week, which may afford him a yearly salary of up to £468,000.
Cortes is being exposed as a Rangers failure right now, but could soon find an exit route moving into the summer transfer window.
Could Cortes join Huracan permanently?
It feels like a distinct possibility that the forward is going to be on his way out of Ibrox in the coming weeks or months.
There is unlikely to be a queue of interested parties, although a permanent switch to Huracan may be a possibility after some positive performances.
Some highlights have emerged from Argentina in recent weeks, but they are unlikely to offer a deal that satisfies the £4.5m that the Light Blues paid just two years ago.
The summer is destined to be interesting for Cortes, although a move away from Govan looks likely even with Danny Rohl now at the helm.
