Rangers: Ashton Scally reaches agreement as Chelsea chase Ibrox deal
Rangers have reportedly signed teenage defender Ashton Scally to a professional contract, despite interest from Premier League sides such as Chelsea.
Scally, who only turned 16 over the weekend, is regarded as one of Rangers’ brightest young prospects in their academy system right now.
The Scotland youth international has been training with the first-team on many occasions this season, showing just how much people within Ibrox think of his talent and potential.
However, due to Scottish FA regulations, he’s not been able to sign a professional contract with Rangers, or indeed any other Scottish club for that matter, until he turned 16.
But, with that milestone now passed, Rangers have seemingly come to a major agreement with the teenager: one that has seen them fend off significant transfer interest from numerous Premier League giants.

Rangers sign Ashton Scally to pro contract amid Chelsea interest
Few clubs in Scottish football have academy systems to rival Rangers’, and Danny Rohl appears primed to tap into that over the course of his Ibrox reign.
Only 36-years old himself, the German head coach has developed a reputation for being particularly good with young players, as showcased from his time at Sheffield Wednesday and his other previous roles.

Rangers included Scally in their training camp squad for the trip to Spain ahead of the post-split fixtures, and that’s not been to done to help simply fill the seats on the plane.
Indeed, as per a report from the Rangers Review on Monday, Gers have agreed to sign Scally to his first professional contract.
It’s also claimed that Chelsea and Man City have been tracking the left-back’s progress in recent times, hoping to snatch him away from Ibrox before he could be convinced to sign a deal with Rangers.
Meanwhile, a separate report from the Daily Record claims that it’s a three-year deal for Scally, whilst also claiming that fellow Premier League sides Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have all been interested in signing him too.
The Rangers Review’s piece claims that the expectation is that news of Scally’s contract will officially be confirmed in the coming hours.
Scally has ideal mentor to learn from in Tuur Rommens
When developing any young player with a particular level of excitement over their potential, it’s always crucial to have a quality senior player in their position who they can pick the brains of.
In Tuur Rommens, Rangers have a left-back who is already well on his way to establishing himself as one of the best players in that position in Scottish football, and looks a real quality addition from the winter window.

Given Scally has been involved in first-team training this season, and will presumably stay that way moving forward, he will get plenty of opportunities to test himself against the Belgian.
And if he’s matching him in those sessions, then perhaps just watch out for Scally taking his first steps in the senior side sooner than you may think.
