Kieron Bowie transfer regret will soften at Rangers as forward admits Danny Rohl never had a chance

Kieron Bowie was among the list of strikers Rangers were tracking in the winter window, but the former Hibernian striker chose to move to Italy.

The Scotsman signed for Hellas Verona, presumably snubbing interest from both Celtic and the Gers.

In the end, it pushed the 49ers to seek a centre-forward signing from elsewhere, with Cameron Archer and Ryan Naderi ultimately emerging as the final options.

A deadline day move for Naderi was eventually confirmed, with Bowie also confirming his switch to the Serie A.

While Bowie may have been high up on the list of targets, and Danny Rohl could have regrets over not securing the transfer at Rangers, a new admission should put any of that to bed.

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

What has Kieron Bowie said about Rangers’ interest?

Bowie has proved himself in Scotland, picking up 11 goal contributions in 22 Scottish Premiership appearances this season.

It was no wonder that sides such as Rangers and Celtic had begun scouting him as a potential signing. However, that interest seems futile now.

Speaking to the Hibs Observer, Bowie admitted he was never planning to stay in Scotland despite transfer interest from Glasgow.

He stated: “I didn’t want to stay in Scotland, or even in the UK. I wanted to try and do something a bit different, culturally, and experience something new.”

In truth, Rangers’ interest was simply just interest. Bowie’s wishes meant that any bid for the striker would likely have only got as far as contract talks as he sought a new challenge.

While at the time, the failure to sign Bowie may have seemed incompetent to Rangers fans, in the end, they never really had a chance.

Kieron Bowie yet to make splash in Italy

Bowie’s move to Serie A has not exactly been as fruitful as he would have hoped, but it has not been a disaster either.

The Scottish striker has scored two goals in nine appearances, with both arriving in his last four matches. Those lack of goals will ease worries over the failure to land the striker.

At Ibrox, the Bears have ultimately been unlucky as well. Naderi, who was an alternative to Bowie, has not had the chance to build momentum either.

The German picked up an injury until the latter end of the season, handing Rangers a major blow in the Scottish Premiership title race, but long-term, the 22-year-old looks to be a handful for defenders.

Overall, the Gers may still yet get the better end of the stick when it comes to their options from the winter window, even if it is not quite obvious yet.
