Youssef Chermiti can convince Rangers transfer chiefs they don’t need to sign Tawanda Maswanhise when the two meet on Sunday.
Danny Rohl‘s side welcome Jens Berthel Askou’s Motherwell team to Ibrox on Sunday, in the first of Rangers’ post-split matches.
These two have proven incredibly difficult to split this season, having played out two 1-1 draws, with the only victory in the fixture being Gers’ 1-0 victory back on 27 December last year.
It will see two high-powered attacks going at each other, with match-winners littered across the forward lines on both sides.
One of those for Motherwell is Maswanhise: a player that Rangers could well have on their summer transfer window shopping list.

Youssef Chermiti needs to outperform Tawanda Maswanhise
Maswanhise was strongly linked to Rangers during this season’s winter transfer window, with the 23-year-old forward enjoying a real breakout campaign for Motherwell.
Indeed, the Zimbabwe international has 22 goals and two assists from 39 total appearances in 2025-26, and has been pivotal to helping the Well go from a relegation group team last term to a championship one.

As a result, it will be absolutely no surprise to see his name linked with a big-money move away from Fir Park during this summer’s transfer window.
However, in Chermiti, Rangers have a striker of their own who has also enjoyed an impressive campaign, netting 11 times and providing three assists in 36 total appearances.
It’s perhaps not the sort of goal return that will cement his position as Gers’ number one centre-forward option moving forward though, as he has blown hot and cold at times this season.
That’s why his performance against Motherwell on Sunday might well be his most important yet, as should he be outshone by Maswanhise, Ibrox chiefs may take note of that for when the transfer window re-opens.
But, if the 21-year-old was to perhaps grab a goal or two, and win the individual battle between him and Maswanhise, then he could convince Rangers’ decision-makers that they don’t need to shell out on the Motherwell star this summer.
Maswanhise is not in good form for Motherwell
Luckily for Chermiti, Maswanhise isn’t entering Sunday’s game at Ibrox in great form for Motherwell.
Indeed, he’s bagged just one goal from his last five Scottish Premiership games, drawing blanks against Dundee, Celtic, Hibernian and Hearts respectively, whilst netting against Falkirk on 4 April.
As for Chermiti, he’s in the mood for goals at the moment, with a brace against Falkirk last time out, as well as notching an assist against Dundee United.
Therefore, on a day that could determine whether Rangers feel the need to push for Maswanhise in the summer to possibly replace Chermiti or not, the Gers star looks primed to show why they shouldn’t.
