Rangers to win title the hard way as Hearts lay down marker

Rangers are going to have to do it the hard way if they are to win the Scottish Premiership title.

The Gers are preparing for their final match before the split, with Danny Rohl’s side travelling to Falkirk on Sunday.

Before the matchday, just a point separated the Govan outfit and league leaders Hearts, with Rangers potentially having the chance to go top on Sunday if the Jambos dropped points against Motherwell.

And that chance looked to be coming, with Jens Berthel Asskou’s side initially taking the lead at Tynecastle.

Though, as they have done for large parts of the season, the league leaders remained unfazed, scoring three times to secure a 3-1 victory to keep them at the top of the standings heading into the split, making it clear that Rangers will have to do it the hard way if they are to lift this year’s title.

Hears continue to remain resolute at the top of the Scottish Premiership

Looking to lift their first league title since 1960, Derek McInnes’ side have continued to remain resolute throughout the entirety of the campaign.

Rangers sit four points behind ahead of Sunday’s trip to Falkirk, setting up what is set to be a riveting period post-split.

The Jambos would drop points against Livingston last weekend, playing out a 1-1 draw on the road.

With the pressure on this weekend, McInnes’ side were in desperate need of a response, or they ran the risk of finally slipping off the top of the standings.

Though they responded perfectly once again, as has continued to frustratingly been the case for Rangers, who have been continuing to pile on the pressure.

The idea of slipping up this weekend was put out there when Motherwell took the lead, with the confidence at Tynecastle potentially shot heading into the split.

Instead, they got the biggest confidence boost possible – topping the table with “five cup finals”, as highlighted by striker Lawrence Shankland.

Six-day period to decide Scottish Premiership winner

Since the fixtures were announced earlier this week, much of the talk has revolved around the controversial nature of Hearts playing away at Celtic on the final day.

Though, what is likely is that the league will be decided in a huge six-day period at the start of next month, with Rangers facing both Hearts and Celtic within the space of six days.
