Rangers’ transfer stategy: 49ers must adapt after Nasser Djiga latest
Rangers have learned their fate on Nasser Djiga’s potential move to Ibrox, and it should force the ownership into adapting.
The centre-back will return to Wolves, and there is no agreement in his loan deal that would let the Gers sign him permanently.
Reports earlier in the season had suggested that there was an £8million clause inserted in the loan, but Liam Keen of the Express and Star claimed on 10 April that was not the case.
That highlights an issue that the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh have, Djiga is not the only one heading back to his parent club when the season concludes.
Rangers relied on loans to get them through the season, and they can’t do the same thing in the future.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Why is Djiga latest such an issue for Rangers?
Mikey Moore is another who will leave Rangers when his loan expires, as that was a straight loan with no buy option.
There is no chance to purchase Jayden Meghoma or Max Aarons either, so four players will depart in the summer.
| Rangers’ loans with no buy options | Parent club |
| Nasser Djiga | Wolves |
| Mikey Moore | Tottenham |
| Max Aarons | AFC Bournemouth |
| Jayden Meghoma | Brentford |
The Ibrox hierarchy needs to adapt their transfer policy, and bring in players that they can keep around, if they are to taste success in the future, after the Djiga news.
Otherwise, they will constantly struggle to keep the talented players that they bring in, and constantly repeat the cycle where supporters fall in love with a loan player, only to have them ripped away.
Why 49ers have already shown signs of change
The ownership should be aiming to improve the depth in Danny Rohl‘s squad, by bringing in permanent additions that can make a mark on Scottish football.
Whether that is players that the data suggests can thrive, or ones who already have experience in the top-flight.
Their interest in Luke Graham and Elijah Just suggests that they may already be reconsidering their approach, as they will surely not be loan moves.

They must continue that, throughout the summer, as they cannot sign several loans again, only to lose them for the following season.
The recruitment team have included some buy options in their temporary signings, such as Andreas Skov Olsen and Derek Cornelius, but there are question marks over whether they will be in Govan for the new campaign.
They would be better off adding players who will be with the Light Blues for years to come, not just for one year.
