Rangers have Nasser Djiga transfer priority after Danny Rohl’s row with Derek Cornelius

Rangers manager Danny Rohl has had a falling out with Derek Cornelius at Ibrox.

According to the Daily Record on 9 April, the chances of the Gers exercising the option to buy the Olympique Marseille loanee appear unlikely following a row with the German manager.

There are no further details on what might have caused the friction between the two, but it leaves the Light Blues in a pickle ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Nasser Djiga is also expected to return to Wolves at the end of the season and it would make sense for the Glaswegian outfit to pursue a permanent move for the Burkina Faso international due to a lack of defensive options at the 36-year-old head coach’s disposal.

Andrew Cavenagh is planning to further invest at Ibrox in the summer and getting a deal over the line for the 23-year-old should be a priority for the Govan side.

Emmanuel Fernandez success should motivate Rangers

Djiga has formed an impressive partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez at the Gers in recent weeks.

While John Souttar returned to the starting lineup against Dundee United, he looks low on confidence.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Rohl stick with the Wolves loanee and the former Peterborough United centre-back for the final six games of the campaign.

Djiga and Fernandez bring calmness on the ball that the Scotland international seems to be missing at Ibrox.

The Glaswegian outfit have an opportunity to build their team around two promising defenders and have a foundation for future success, but it remains to be seen whether they can convince Wolves to sell him in the summer.

Derek Cornelius may feel hard done by at Ibrox

Cornelius is training with the Rangers youth team after returning from injury and it doesn’t look like Rohl has any plans to use him for the rest of the campaign.

The Canada international put in some decent performances for the Gers before picking up a fitness issue, and fans surely expected him to be back in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

Supporters in G51 would have opted to buy the centre-back despite his limited outings, given the lack of personnel in defence.

Cornelius can count himself unlucky with how his situation has unfolded in Govan.
